Here in Portmarnock GP Clinic we have been running a comprehensive travel medicine service now for the last few years.

We are now delighted to be able to offer you an enhanced travel service by linking up with the Tropical Medicine Bureau! Why not have a look below in case you have any queries about what this might mean for you.

Do I have to be an existing patient of the practice to avail of this service?

No, this clinic is open to existing patients and those who have not previously registered with us.

Will you have records of previous vaccines I have had?

We will have access to any vaccines that you may have had as part of the TMB previously (for example, in the TMB Grafton St.) but we will not have access to vaccines done abroad or in other clinics or GP surgeries. It is best to bring along any records of previous vaccination that you might have.

How will I know what vaccines I need?

Every traveller is individual and has a consultation with Dr. Breen where they can decide what vaccines or medications they may need. No vaccines are compulsory and you may decide to get no vaccinations if that is what you prefer.

What is the cost of the service?

Is is best to look at this page to see what cover you may need, and to then check the Tropical Medicine Bureau price list to see pricing structure. The consultation fee is in addition to the vaccine prices.

I am unsure what vaccines I had or when but I know I had some. What should I do?

If you have no evidence of prior vaccination then we assume that you have had no vaccines and will operate accordingly. You do, of course, have full and final say on what vaccines (if any) that you accept.

I am unsure of my exact itinerary but know my dates and approximate locations of travel. Is this ok?

Yes, we will do our best to figure out exactly what advice and vaccines or medications you might need.

I am travelling very soon. Is it too late to get vaccinated?

Generally late vaccination is better than no vaccination at all, so even if you are flying out somewhere in a few days then it is best to still arrange an appointment if you are concerned about travel risks.

Do you do telephone consultations for travel medicine?

Given the diversity of people’s trips and the often complex nature of travel plans, stopovers and destinations, we cannot call patients back who have queries on travel or travel vaccinations. We advise travellers who cannot answer a query from perusing the Tropical Medicine Bureau homepage that they should book a consultation.

Do you do post travel screening testing?

Currently we do not as we feel that this is an expert only service and best done by experts in the TMB centres of Grafton Street & Dun Laoghaire.

We are really looking forward to welcoming patients to Portmarnock GP Clinic for this service. Just call us on 01-8461335 to book your appointment.
